Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist Awarded the Rettig Prize 2022

SCAS Pro Futura Scientia Fellow Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist has been awarded the Rettig Prize 2022
by Kungl. Vitterhetsakademien (the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities). He
receives the prize for his interdisciplinary work on climate and disease in the long-term, which highlights
the importance of approaching crucial topical issues also from a humanities and historical perspective.

Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist is Associate Professor of History and Associate Professor of Physical Geo-
graphy at Stockholm University. He was appointed a SCAS Pro Futura Scientia Fellow in 2018 and was in
residence at the Collegium in the academic year 2019-20.

The Rettig Prize is awarded to an outstanding researcher in the Academy’s fields of interest, and was first
awarded in 1956. The right to nominate the winner formerly alternated between the Academy’s history and
antiquarianism class, and its philosophy and philology class, but as of 2018 both classes now award a SEK
250,000 prize each annually.
